The surface paint contains high levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.  5,400 units were produced by A.A. of America Inc., of East Brunswick, N.J.  The recalled toy is a package of four action figures. Each figure is about 5 3/4 inches high. The UPC number 604111230003 is printed on the product�s packaging. The recalled Tot Tower blocks are sold in sets of 10 blocks ranging from 6 x 6 inches to 1.5 x 1.5 inches. The cardboard blocks are covered in a plastic laminate film. The blocks have various images and themes including Things I Know New; Garden Fairies; Hardware Store; Around the Land; Read-To-Me; Animal Sounds; Animal Alphabet; ABC; and Nursery Friends. “Tot Towers” and “eeBoo Corporation” are printed on the product’s packaging.  Sold at specialty and gift shops nationwide from January 2003 through September 2007 for about $20.

A toy camera, a doll that speaks four languages and a board game that allows kids to be hockey team managers are among a list of the best toys of the year, the Canadian Toy Testing Council announced Monday.

The national testing body says its list of best toys, as chosen by kids and parents, includes the Kidizoom Camera from VTech Electronics Canada. It was chosen as the council’s top pick for the best battery-operated toy of 2008, the council’s executive director Leigh Poirier told a morning news conference.

The camera is similar to an adult’s digital camera, but is much more durable and can withstand being repeatedly dropped.

“It is also compatible with your personal computer and the children can put their pictures and do photo editing on the television. It has got an automatic shutoff and an automatic flash and a wonderful LCD screen,” explained Poirier. “The kids took thousands of pictures with this camera and it is absolutely fabulous.”

The non-profit Canadian Toy Testing Council has been assessing toys since 1952, judging them on the basis of design, function, durability and play value. The CTTC’s panel of experts analyzes the toys, looking for those that will enhance a child’s development and ability, while providing great play value.

The annual findings are provided directly to the manufacturer or distributor of the toy, to help companies understand the expectations of children and parents, and to encourage toy-makers to keep these expectations in mind when they design other toys.

With the holiday season upon us, don’t forward this gift to your children as an extra bonus gift.

The cosmetic stuffer bear was designed to hold cosmetics and/or gift cards. It is a plush bear with a zipper down the body. A “VS” neck medallion serves as the zipper pull. The bear was sold in pink and leopard.  The neck medallion zipper pull can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children. Consumers should immediately stop using the stuffer bears and keep out of the reach of young children. Victoria’s Secret has sent consumers a postage paid return mailer enclosed. Customers returning the bear will receive a refund, postage and a $10 gift certificate.  Made In China!!

Young children can insert their hands into the oven’s front opening, and get their hands or fingers caught, posing entrapment and burn hazards.  Since the repair program announced in February, Easy-Bake has received 249 reports of children getting their hands or fingers caught in the oven’s opening, including 77 reports of burns, 16 of which were reported as second and third-degree burns. Easy-Bake also received one report of a serious burn that required a partial finger amputation to a 5-year-old girl.  The Easy-Bake Oven is a purple and pink plastic oven that resembles a kitchen range with four burners on top and a front-loading oven. “Easy Bake” is printed on the front of the oven. Model number 65805 and “Hasbro” are stamped into the plastic on the back of the oven. This recall includes all units with the retrofit kit. The Easy-Bake Oven is an electric toy and is not recommended for children under eight years of age. Ovens sold before May 2006 are not included in this recall. 

Toys “R” Us, Wal-Mart, Target, KB Toys and other retailers nationwide from May 2006 through July 2007 for about $25.

The recall involves four military-style Elite Operations toys, including Super Rigs (#1004), Command Patrol Center (#1020), Barracuda Helicopter (#1023), and 3 Pack 8-inch Figures (#1024). The product number is located on the toy�s packaging.  Surface coatings on the toys contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.  Toys �R� Us stores nationwide and toysrus.com from July 2007 through October 2007 for between $10 and $30. No other Elite Operations brand military play sets are included in this recall.  About 16,000 produced, Made In China.

Consumers should immediately take the toy away from children, and return them to any Toys �R� Us for a full refund or store credit.

Baby Toys Baby Bead & Wire Toys and Speed Racer Pull Back & Go Action! Cars

The Baby Bead & Wire Toys are colored wires and colored beads that can slide on a natural wood platform. These bead toys have item number 903419 and date code 71 printed on the back of the packaging. The Speed Racer Pull Back & Go Action! Cars are yellow with black stripes and white with red stripes. Item number 873820 and date code 77 is printed on the back of the packaging. About 300,000 were produced, made in China.

The toy was named toy of the year in Australia and recently made Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s list of top 12 Christmas toys.

Wal-Mart on Thursday listed Aqua Dots on its Web site as “out of stock online” and had removed them from its top toy list.

Toronto-based Spin Master stopped shipping Aqua Dots and asked retailers to pull them off their shelves, where they had sold for $17 to $30.
